ABOUT THE COTTON WOOD MOTEL

The Cottonwood Motel, in New York’s mid-Hudson Valley, is situated on 3 1/2 landscaped acres with an unobstructed panoramic view of meadows, rolling hills, and mountains (the Berkshires) in the distance.  A stream runs through the property, which borders on thousands of acres belonging to a nature preserve. It is not unusual to find deer, wild turkey, quail, or pheasant on the lawn right outside your room. Located 1 3/4 miles west of the village of Millbrook, New York (population 1,339), the Cottonwood is 80 miles north of midtown Manhattan, about 1 mile east of the Taconic State Parkway.

All of the units at the Cottonwood are spacious and bright and are beautifully furnished and appointed. Every unit except one has two entryways. The front entrance to each room is accessed from the parking area or lobby. In addition, French doors open onto a rear patio and expansive lawn with unobstructed countryside views. Each room has a full bath, cable TV, air-conditioning, telephone, and wireless internet access. There are standard rooms, deluxe rooms, 1 suite and 1 cottage. Pets are welcome in all units (except for cats). All units are nonsmoking and one of our standard rooms is handicapped accessible.

I like this motel situated in the country. The room was large, nicely decorated, and has French doors leading out the back. Best of all the was a jacuzzi tub next to the bed! I watched TV while soaking. The staff was friendly. Definitely recommend.

We've stayed at the Cottonwood many times during the last six years. Over the last two months we logged four separate stays. All worked very well for us. We'd go back!

The Hudson Valley is celebrated for its historic sites, prestigious colleges and private schools, vineyards and wineries, thoroughbred horse farms, and state parks and gardens. In town and on local roads, you’ll find gourmet and casual dining, farms and orchards, charming shops, antiques dealers, and galleries.

The area’s terrain–vast tracts of open land–is especially suitable for horseback riding and foxhunts. The renowned Millbrook Equestrian Center is nearby, and 20 miles of trails for hiking, jogging, or cycling are just minutes away on the scenic acreage of the Institute of Ecosystem Studies, a nature research center and arboretum.

Leisure activities and sports of all kinds, including golf, polo, tennis, fishing, swimming, shooting, and game hunting are all a short drive from the motel. Millbrook is home to Orvis-Sandanona, Mashomack, and other fish and game clubs.

Millbrook is both rural and sophisticated, with many stately homes and farms that have been owned by the same families for generations. The quiet and privacy afforded by the Cottonwood regularly draw guests who are mentioned in such publications as Time, Businessweek, and Town and Country.  For a day or a week, the Cottonwood is a great place to stop–to relax and take in Millbrook’s natural beauty or to use as a base from which to go nonstop and explore the host of recreational and cultural activities the Hudson Valley has to offer.
